AFTER three consecutive wins Bury were brought back to reality by the visiting team.
The home side went behind after four minutes when a poor defensive clearance kick was charged down for an unconverted try.
Bury lost flanker Jon Allen with a knee injury and he was replaced by Ben Holland.
Bury enjoyed dominance in the set scrum against a much heavier pack and were able to convert this into points.
They applied the pressure, and, after a couple of penalties, captain Alex Isherwood took a quick tap and went over for a try, converted by Ian Webb.
Bury enjoyed a two-point advantage at the interval but the visitors scored after three minutes of the second period with a cross-field move which resulted in a try in the corner.
Bury, not to be outdone, came from behind, and, in a fast exchange of hands from the three quarters following a penalty, right wing Dan Scanlon scored in the corner.
The conversion kick from Ian Webb unfortunately struck the crossbar to deny Bury the two additional points.
Garstang’s pack, which had been outplayed in the second half and were expected to fade as the match progressed, burst into life.
In the final quarter they pushed Bury back in the set piece and enjoyed a plentiful supply of ball from successive rucks and mauls. It resulted in a 28th- minute converted try under the posts. They followed it up with another penalty.
On Saturday, Bury travel to the Southport home of Tarleton, kick off 2.15pm.
