THE Old Boys swept aside local rivals Bolton by 5-0 on Saturday as they opened up a 10-point gap at the top of the table.
After an even opening 10 minutes, which saw both sides creating attacking opportunities, the introduction of Luke Fidler and Calvin Flowers gave the home side a better balance.
With 10 minutes left in the first half, Luke Fidler’s 20th goal of the season pushed the home side in front.
Bury’s top goal scorer weaved his way through before scoring from a tight angle.
The second half saw the Old Boys strengthen their grip as four more goals went in. Fidler added to his tally with a thunderous strike from a short corner, as he doubled the lead.
Jon Kitchen grabbed his second in as many games, soon followed by David Hodbod and Chris Lowe strikes.
With five games left the Old Boys have a 10-point cushion, as they seek to complete their third successive promotion.
