CHRIS Casper has said he will do whatever it takes to turn round the Shakers' fortunes after they slipped to their third successive defeat of the season.
Leading with John Fitzgerald's 33rd minute header, there was a familiar sinking feeling around Gigg lane as first Kelvin Langmead, then Ben Davies, inflicted more misery on the Bury boss.
But Casper is determined to steer things back in the right direction, starting by eliminating the defensive mistakes which allowed Shrewsbury back into the game.
He said: "I'm not making excuses for myself. I think I was prepared tactically. The lads have given everything but they have switched off and we can't keep giving away goals like that.
"I have my own ideas on what went wrong. I'll act quickly and do whatever I can to improve on what was a really good first half performance."
Up until the break, the Shakers displayed their best football of the season so far.
Even though Alan Fettis was called upon to make excellent saves from Sagi Burton's penalty and Ben Davies' free-kick - Bury were worth the lead given to them by Fitzgerald's flicked header. Andy Bishop caused a mountain of problems early on and John-Paul Pittman had a seemingly legitimate goal ruled out.
When Fettis denied Burton from the spot, it seemed as if Lady Luck had finally found her seat at Gigg Lane.
But then came the flip side. Visibly nervous, the Shakers struggled to reproduced the flowing football which has the Shrews on the rack for the majority of the opening period.
The pressure told, and when the lively Derek Asamoah breezed to the byline on 67 minutes, the Shakers had failed to track Kelvin Langmead at the far post, who was left with a simple tap-in.
Barely 10 minutes later, Bury were caught too far up the pitch by a Shrewsbury break and Dave Edwards slipped the ball to Ben Davies, who was felled by Dave Challinor before releasing his shot.
It looked as if the Bury skipper would be receiving his marching orders, but referee Terry Ilderton decided only to show a yellow card. Unfortunately, Fettis was unable to reproduce his heroics and Davies stepped up to slam the ball home.
Bury 1 Shrewsbury 2
