SCOTT Quigg has urged his home-town crowd to crank up the noise in the build up to the maiden title fight of his career at the Castle Leisure Centre on Saturday night.

The 21-year-old super-bantamweight, who lives a stone’s throw from the fight venue, is bidding for the first title of his career when he takes on Argentine Santiago Allione for the vacant WBA International title.

It is the second time Quigg has fought in Bury and, on his last outing at the Castle Leisure Centre in May, he believes the vociferous backing he received played a huge part in his two-minute demolition of Russian Andrey Kostin.

“The atmosphere that night was unbelievable,” said Quigg. “It gives you such a confidence boost when people come out to watch and support you like that. It makes all the hard work in training worth it.

“Hopefully everyone does the same this time around. I remember seeing the Russian before the last fight and he was smirking and grinning in the changing rooms.

“His mood changed when he stepped into the ring. I looked over at him and he looked a different person – that confidence had disappeared and he crumbled under the pressure.

“I hope the crowd can get to the Argentine in the same sort of way on Saturday.”

Allione, aged 26, has won 16 of his 23 professional fights – the most high profile being when he lost to Diego Oscar Silva for the WBO Latino bantamweight title in April 2008.

Since then he has bounced back with three victories and, despite not fighting during this calender year, he is sure to be a tough nut to crack.

“I have seen a video of him on the internet and he looked like he was a good puncher who got around the ring well,” said Quigg.

“His record suggests that he has improved since then and I have trained as if it will be another tough fight.

“He his my first South American opponent but I am confident of winning. If I did win it would mean a lot to lift my first title in Bury.”

The fight will be screened live and free at www.brandhatton.com from 6.30pm. A small number of tickets will be available on the door.

Fans can also cheer on Quigg at the pre-fight weigh-in at Castle Leisure Centre tomorrow afternoon at 3pm.
