Hawkshaw went down to Markland Hill A in the showdown which could decide second place in the Bolton Tennis League Mixed Section Division One.
In Division Two Holcombe Brook B maintained their lead with a win over second-placed Hawkshaw B.
In Division Four, top team Holcombe Brook C’s match against Markland Hill D started off close in the mixed sets, but Holcombe went on to win seven out of the remaining eight sets.
In Division Five, relegation-threatened Hawkshaw D beat Holcombe Brook D, only losing three sets.
In Division Six, Elton Vale kept their hopes of promotion alive with a win over bottom-placed Barrow Bridge B.
Walmer Men A beat Lostock C at home to cement their mid-table position in Division Two. Mark Booth and Rick Morley won 6-4, 6-1, 3-6, with another two sets added by Mike Davies and Adam Gooddy at 6-0, 6-0, 3-6. Dave Gerrard and Jay Hardy returned scores of 6-3, 6-6, 2-6 to complete the 5.5-3.5 victory.
In Division Four, Walmer B beat Longsight Meths B 5.5-3.5. Steve Routledge and Phil Mansfield laid a solid foundation with set scores of 6-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Paul Biggins and Nico Renzuli then scored 7-5, 6-2, 3-6 and Andy Parton and Tom Corbett won a set 6-3.
In Division Nine, Walmer D had a 7-2 win over Eagley C to maintain their promotion challenge. Keith Fairhurst and Adam Simpson won 6-0, 6-4, 6-3 and Bruce Hardman and Ian Tait won 6-4, 6-2. Two more sets were added by the Turbill brothers, 6-1, 7-5.
The mixed A team gained a welcome win at David Lloyd (Chorley) by a margin of nine games and will need to show similar resolve in the run-in to maintain their Division Two status.
The Walmer Mixed C team lost to fellow strugglers Lonsight F by just two games.
