BURY Cricket Club’s ambitious captain Simon Belston is targeting a clean sweep for his team this summer.
The Radcliffe Road side, who finished second in the Manchester Association Premier Division last season, start their latest campaign when they host Bolton Indians in the Surridge Trophy on Saturday.
“We want to do well in every competition,” said Belston, who is heading into his third year as skipper.
“We finished second in the league last year so we want to go one better – and we also want to win the cups.
“We have got a good squad again. Michael Alexander, from South Africa, is our professional and we expect big things from him. We are delighted we have managed to keep hold of Irfan Rana and Zach Gowland. He took 40 wickets for us last season and he is playing for us again.
“We have added a couple of decent amateurs and we have a good base of youngsters coming through.
“One of those, 17-year-old Luke Jarvis, played in the first team last season and, now he knows what it is all about, we think he can score some big runs at the top of the order.
“I hope to lead from the front with my performances and then others should follow. If we get the morale in the dressing room right in the early part of the season, we will do well.”
