SNOOKER: John Allen and Tony Preston got Tottington D off to a flying start in their Irwell Street Metals A Section clash with Elton Lib C, and the home side never looked back, running out 6-2 winners.
Ian Howarth saw off former chairman Paul Taylor to pull a frame back for the visitors and, when Alan Brookes made a fine 63 break, Tottington’s lead looked to be under threat.
But Brookes conceded two fouls on the green and brown and eventually lost on the black to Pete Wilding.
Ian Martin played to his usual high standard, conceding only six points, and compiling breaks of 36 and 27 on his way to victory over Danny Evans, and the home side were home and dry by the time Steve Ryan won the final frame to give some respectability to the scoreline.
Tottington’s C team produced the performance of the week in the Cornucopia B Section, continuing their impressive start to the season and going top of the table with a 7-2 win at Whitefield A.
John Smith took a tight frame against namesake Les, before Shaun Hodgkinson’s first game of the season ended in defeat by a mere three points.
Matt Cox maintained his 100 per cent start to the campaign with a win over Terry Jenkins, before Ian Brierley did exactly the same with a win over Dave Smith. Colin Chadwick kept the match in the balance with a black ball win over Mick Middleton, before Chris Pursglove showed a glimpse of the form he’s capable of, with a fine 67 break — the week’s biggest break to seal the match.
In the Bury Bed and Pine Centre C Section, Salisbury B won a very close match against Huntley B. Four frames went down to the black ball, with two wins going to each side.
The frames which decided the match went in favour of the home side — a close win from Adrian Davidson and an excellent 95-32 win for Dan Tracy.
The next delegates’ meeting, which all clubs must attend, will be next Thursday, October 15, at Bury Bridge Workingmens Club, 8pm.
