BURY boss Alan Knill is hoping Danny Boyle can get to Gigg Lane more often this season after watching them kick-start their campaign.

The Shakers’ celebrity fan was back home at the weekend and took advantage of a rare opportunity to catch up on his hometown club.

And it seemed the Radcliffe-born Oscar winner helped inspire that star quality from the Shakers as two late goals gave them a thoroughly-deserved first home win of the season.

Ryan Lowe’s 85th-minute effort ended a wait of 535 minutes for a Bury goal at Gigg this season.

And substitute David Worrall added a stoppage-time strike to seal a second straight win and send the Shakers up to 13th.

“Danny’s work commitments take him all over the world but he’s a genuine supporter and his dad comes often,” Knill said.

“It was fantastic to see him and I’m delighted we won so he can definitely come back.

“All of a sudden we’ve gone from a crisis to looking up the table again.

“You have to understand that sometimes things don’t go for you — you just have to believe in each other and that things will turn round, and I think we have that.”

Skipper Paul Scott was ruled out with a thigh injury from training but fit-again Dave Buchanan proved an able stand-in at right-back.

Managerless Lincoln were eager to avoid a third straight defeat and set out to frustrate the Shakers.

That made for a lacklustre first half of few chances, with Andy Bishop directing an early header straight at Rob Burch.

The Lincoln keeper then had to parry long-range efforts by Lowe and left-back Tom Newey while the visitors rarely ventured forward.

The Imps threatened occasionally in the second half, as Scott Kerr fired straight at Wayne Brown while the Bury keeper tipped a Chris Fagan strike wide.

But Bury gradually found that width was the undoing of Lincoln’s defensive 3-5-2 formation and began to push for the win.

Lowe spurned a glorious chance in the 67th minute, dragging wide when clean through, before Mike Jones shot straight at Burch after being played in by on-loan striker Tom Elliott.

Winger Worrall, who is also on loan, had been making inroads down the right but then popped up on the left to get in behind the Lincoln defence and pull back for Lowe to side foot home his fourth goal of thLowee season.

And as Lincoln pushed for a late equaliser, Worrall fired home after Jones’ header was saved.

“We passed it like I know we can and showed a desire to get forward and win the game,” said Knill.

“I thought the players were excellent and, second half, I thought we steamrolled them. It took great courage from the players because it was nervous and tense, and yet I didn’t see many running away from the ball.

“They believe in what we’re telling them — if someone throws a system at us, this is how you break it down. They did that and I thought they were two really good goals.”
