STAND brought the curtain down on their season with a seven-wicket victory at Irlam.
The Whitefield men bowled the hosts out for 142 with Stuart Catterall starring with the ball, taking 4-32.
But it was Stand’s pro Amila Weththasinghe who was the mainstay of their innings, cruelly out on 99, after dominating the Irlam bowling to help take the score past 100 in the 20th over.
Both Stand’s openers faltered early on — back in the pavilion with the score on 19.
Weththasinghe, however, had his eye in almost immediately and decided to get on with it.
He was well supported by Catterall and Irlam had not answer to the onslought.
Despite a number of Irlam bowling changes, the Sri Lankan hit the ball to the boundary relentlessy with he and Catterall finishing with the highest partnership of the season — 117.
When Weththasinghe was finally out, Matt Holt came in and finished the game off with an unbeaten six runs, with Catterall 26 not out, to seal a comprehensive win in style.
Stand ended the season in eighth place with their highest ever points tally of 63.
Meanwhile, the club has been boosted by the news that Weththasinghe will be returning for the 2010 season. This term, after missing the first few weeks of the campaign, he finished with 785 runs at an average of 41.30.
He also claimed 65 wickets at 15.6.
Carl Sutcliffe finished with 48 wickets at 16.1 and Catterall claimed 35 wickets at 13.3.
