ARTISTIC rollerskating queen Lynsey Lightowler will represent the UK in the World Championships for the first and last time in Germany in November.

The 30-year-old Radcliffe skater has been the British Senior Champion for the last 12 years in the disciplines of freestyle and solo dance, but is set to quit the sport after appearing in her first World Championships in Freiburg.

She has also won the European Solo Dance Championships for two consecutive years and has been a member of the British squad since she was 16, competing all over Europe.

Lynsey and her 26-year-old sister Ami — who is recovering from an ankle injury — are the only two competitors from Britain and they will be up against each other after flying to Germany on November 16.

Driving instructor Lynsey is finding the task of funding herself — up to £300 per month just on a coach — an uphill struggle and has decided to give it up unless she wins the world title.

Her mother Sheila said: “Lynsey wants to get on the property ladder. We have never been able to get sponsorship for her and the UK sporting organisations will not contribute. It has been very frustrating, because in other countries like Italy, the sport is much more prominent and the skaters get lots of support.”
