BURY Athletic Club returned to Cheshire League action with a strong all-round performance in the third meeting of the year held at Stretford.
A healthy turnout from the senior men contributed to the overall team performance.
Carlo Balsamo took second place in the 100m (11.5secs), adding third in both the 800m (2.26.4) and triple jump (10.82m).
Marvin Edwards finished second in the B 100m (11.9secs), Matt Elkin took victory in the C race (12.1secs) and Sam Wilson second in the D competition (12.9secs).
Elkin also took second place in the B triple jump (9.94m) and fourth in the 800m (2.27.4). There were excellent performances in the 3,000m from Andy Milligan (third in 10.16.9) and Andy Brisbane (fifth in 10.56.1).
In the senior women’s competition, Sarah Lutkevitch and Nicola Quick showed their all-round versatility. Sarah finished second in the 100m (13.5secs) and discus (18.89m), adding a third place in the long jump (4.04m).
Quick won the B discus (17.65m) and had second place finishes in the B 100m (14.4secs) and long jump (3.85m). Rhiannon Davies finished second in the C 100m. Amongst the youngsters, the outstanding performance of the day came from Abeneezer Abera in the Under-13 boys 200m, claiming a convincing victory in 27.4secs.
Jamie Hill took victory in the B 200m in a time of 29.4secs. In the under-13s girls competition, Christie Cook was another easy winner, this time in the 800m in 2.37.5. She also added third place in the 100m (15.1secs) and second in the long jump (3.61m).
Eleanor Boyle was just outside her personal best with 2.53.9 to finish sixth in the 800m. Teagan Brady was fourth in the soft javelin (10.77m). Fiona Gilmour took third in the B 75m (13.1secs).
In the under-11s boys, there were excellent all-round performances from Sam Brooks, with a second place in the long jump (3.67m) to add to third in the 75m (11.9secs) and fourth in the 600m (2.10.8).
Iestyn Rimmer finished fourth in both the B 75m (14.1secs) and long jump (2.04m), whilst another debutant, George Mitchell, took third place in the C 75m (14.7secs).
The best performance amongst the under-15s boys came from Nathan Milligan who took victory in the 1500m (4.54.5) and another first place in the C 200m (26.8secs).
Nicky Brisbane threw the javelin 19.57m to take third place, adding a second place in the B long jump (3.68m).
Jack Williams ran strongly to finish fourth in the 200m (27.4secs) and third in the 1500m (5.26.4). Greg Maxwell leapt 4.15m for fifth in the long jump and also took third in the B 200m (28.1secs).
There was a strong all-round points contribution from the under-15s girls team. Katie Buckley was just outside her personal best to finish third in the 1500m (5.20.4). Alana Grundy took fourth (5.40.4) and Evie McDermott victory in the C race (6.07.6).
Alana added further points with second in the C 100m (15.8secs) and Evie in the 100m (fourth in 16.5secs) and shot putt (also fourth with 5.28m). Katrina Conroy produced the day’s fastest run to finish fourth in the B 100m (15.4secs) and was fourth in the B shot (5.07m).
The final Cheshire League fixture of the season will take place at Boggart Hole Clough, Salford on Sunday, September 6.
