CROQUET: Bury Croquet Club’s Advanced team of three visited Fylde for an all-play-all match. In the first round David Barrett won his game while Ken Anderton and Barbara Young were defeated. After lunch the pattern was repeated, so for the final round, in which they each met their nearest equivalent, the outcome was still open.
However, Barrett lost to Fylde’s strongest player. Anderton could not prevail either, so Young was the last to finish with a narrow victory which completed a 6-3 defeat.
The Souths Golf croquet team entertained visitors from Southport. The team of Susan Hardman, Bob and Maureen Whittle and Mick Sandiford had many close results, every game running to time. In the doubles the visitors won four of the six games.
In the singles sequence the tight games continued. Sandiford came out on top three times but the others had fewer successes and the visitors departed with a 14-8 victory to maintain their lead in the league.
