BURY Cycle Speedway Club only had four riders to fulfil the penultimate fifth round in the Northern Fours League at Heckmondwike on Sunday.

A number of riders were not available and the quartet did the club proud by holding onto their top-of-the-table position with the final round at Bury in September.

Third place on the day was a bonus as it left the team one match point ahead. Heckmondwike won on the day with a three-point win over Stockport and Bury nine points behind them.

Bury scorers: Chris Parish 13 points; Paul Dyson 11 pts; Robin Yang nine pts and Michael Kennedy eight pts.

On the previous Wednesday evening at Astley and Tyldesley, the club’s only representative, Jean-Luke Miladinovic, took a great but surprising runner-up spot in the Manchester League U16 Individual, scoring 19 points from four wins and a second equal with Stockport’s Ben Higham before losing a tie-breaking run off.

On Sunday Bury entertain Edinburgh at Goshen Park with an earlier than usual 12 noon start, and on Wednesday Bury stage the Manchester League U10 and U19 Individuals, starting at 7.30pm.
