BURY produced the complete performance to blow Longridge Town away last weekend and assistant boss Tim Lees said it was the sort of display that can win you the NWCFL Premier Division title.

The Shakers ran riot at Gigg Lane, winning 8-0, with loan star DJ Pedro adding two more goals to his total while Lewis Earl, Rustam Stepans, Bebeto Gomes, Tanaka Cherera, Rueben Jerome and an own goal completing the rout.

Lees said boss Dave McNabb and the coaching staff felt that a big win was coming their way - now the aim is to maintain a high level of consistency.

“We have said a few times that we thought it was a result that had been coming for a while, the chances we have had it games, we felt that if we were a bit more clinical in the final third it was something that would come at some point,” said Lees.

“I thought we were excellent, I thought it was the best performance of the season.

“Obviously the scoreline suggests that but just the way we played.”

“We needed last week to be honest, we needed the dip in performance, particularly the first half against Charnock, second half against AFC Liverpool, we needed that to highlight certain things to the boys.

“This week in training we have had a few honest conversations about a few bit around accountability and what we are looking for, managed to reiterate a few things in and out of possession we wanted to do and thought we executed everything brilliant, I thought the lads were absolutely fantastic, with the ball, they dominated, kept moving the ball to the final third, the movement, the timing of the movement, the connection. We just created that free player all game all over the pitch.

“I think the biggest difference was without the ball, our pressing was outstanding, continually regaining the ball, defending the half way line, aggression. It could have been a few more to be honest.”

Bury now turn their attentions to Saturday’s trip to Lower Breck and Lees said producing more complete performances has got to be the aim.

“We are looking for consistency in our performances for 90 minutes,” he said. “We know how good we can be for periods within games. We have been dominating games, we have been creating a lot of chances.

“Because of the level we are at, you know that you are not going to have a high level of conversion of chances because it is the hardest thing to do in the game and players who are unbelievably efficient in front of goal they don’t’ stay at respective level for long.

“We are fine with the chances we are creating, we understand we are going to miss chances.

“It is our job to be calm, to not panic the boys.It is our job to make sure they continue to do the right things which we have been doing but that consistency for the 90 minutes, that is what we are looking at.

“I felt our energy and the standards all the way through, with and without the ball, is the level we need if we are going to win the league.”

Lees said being able to train twice a week with the squad will be key going forward.

He added: “We have had Tuesday and Thursday to prepare for the game on Saturday.

“We are getting to that point in the season where if we get through the next couple of weeks, we have got two sessions a week and we have always said that when we get that training time together as a group we feel that is where we are going to see the best of this group.”

Meanwhile, Lees said he would love to be able to sign DJ Pedro a permanent basis, the striker having scored six goals since joining on loan from Buxton.

“He has added a lot for us,” said Lees. “His consistency in terms of his application, his workrate, his mindset, his mentality to fight for every single ball.

“I think that is clearly what the fans love. He is one, with his age, if we could get him in, he has got an unbelievable amount of improvement in him as well because of the attributes that he has got.

“Excellent player for the level, we are absolutely made up with him and hopefully if we can do it on a permanent that is something we would like to do.”
