Bury AC’s Luke Harreld travelled to Italy to compete in the Garda Trentino Half Marathon on Sunday and ran well.

On a stunning course routed along Lake Garda, the personal trainer placed 35th overall in a time of 1hr 18mins 17secs. He was the second UK athlete to finish and also placed second in the V35-39 age category.

The previous evening Bury had seven members competing at the prestigious Podium 5k races in Barrowford. All were rewarded with fast times in the series of very competitive races.

First to finish was Christian Peters, who set a superb new personal best of 15:45.80. Next home was Jack Griffiths in a season’s best of 16:28.06. He was followed by Conor Wilkinson, who set a new PB of 16:37.81, while Paul Johnston took sixth place in the V45 category with a season’s best of 17:19.07. Abigail Warburton continued to display fine form, taking 14th women’s place in a new lifetime best of 17:28.81.

Craig Sykes placed fifth in the V50 category with a season’s best of 17:58.82, and there was also a PB for Alex Leach who clocked 19:15.07. Bury AC member Brandon Quinton, running for his first claim club of Warrington, ran superbly to set a new PB of 14:26.62 in the A race.

On Saturday morning, several club members took part in the Heaton Parkrun. Paul Marshall was first home in second place with 17:59, while Rachel Marshall was second woman, in 19:33, and Giles Bennett placed 12th overall with 19:36. Lucy Dent had a storming run, taking third woman’s place in a new PB of 20:11, while Robert Butterworth, making his debut in the event, placed 20th with 20:28. Sarah Flett finished as eighth woman with 22:42 and Sarah Thomas took 10th with 23:29.
