Dave McNabb hopes his Bury side can keep getting points on the board despite their hectic schedule.

It has been a demanding start to the season for the Shakers, who have a number of games in hand to catch up on following their impressive FA Cup run.

The games keep coming thick and fast over the next few weeks, and McNabb admits it has taken its toll on the squad.

However, the fixture list is set to ease up at the end of November and the manager is looking forward to some vital time on the training pitch.

“We are coming towards the end of what has been a ridiculous workload on the players,” he said.

“We have a few more weeks of Saturday, Tuesday but by the end of November, it is back down to one game a week.

“We are really looking forward to that, I think the contact time in training will bring the lads on. It is just about getting through the next few weeks and trying to pick up as many points as we can.”

Bebeto Gomes returned to the side as Bury secured a 2-0 victory at Charnock Richard on Tuesday night, but Ruben Jerome and Lewis Alessandra both missed out.

“Ruben had a hamstring niggle going into the game at Harborough and obviously had to come off with that,” McNabb explained. “Lewis Alessandra pulled his groin in training.

“We are a little bit threadbare at the moment and I think we probably need one or two in to bolster the squad, either short term or long term depending on who we identity.

“We are looking a little bit light at the moment, the quality is there but we just need to make sure we have got the numbers.”

It was a good response in the league following last weekend’s penalty shoot-out against Chadderton in the FA Vase.

McNabb maintains that fighting for promotion is the club’s main goal this season but admitted there was still disappointment in the camp after exiting the competition.

“I thought we were really poor first half,” he continued. “We didn’t come out, we didn’t battle, we were poor in possession.

“It was really not like us at all but fair play to Chadderton, they played well first half. At half time, we told the lads what we wanted from them and the second half was a different game.

“We had wave after wave and got the goal, but then we weren’t able to get that important second goal.

“Penalties are a bit of a lottery. It is disappointing, we wanted to win the game but I think we all know where our priorities are.

“The FA Cup run has taken a lot out of the players and we have a lot of games in hand. Progress in this competition would have certainly hindered the league and our main priority.

“We are disappointed but ultimately we have one area to focus on now.”
