A 90th minute Erike Sousa goal gave Prestwich Heys a welcome point as they drew 2-2 at Charnock Richard on Tuesday night.

Heys looked to be heading for a tenth consecutive League defeat before the pacy wide man, who had come on as a substitute in the 78th minute, fired home from the edge of the box to level matters.

It was some reward for Heys battling qualities and although there was a suspicion of, and appeals for a handball in the build up to the goal, it brought some long overdue good luck.

It had looked like being a long night for Heys when the hosts, on the back of a strong start, took the lead in the 9th minute when Louis Holt rose to power home a header.

Heys responded well however and were level in the 17th minute when from a throw in the ball was worked to Luke Mann who fired home.

It sparked a good spell for the visitors with home keeper Ryan Hamer twice called into action to thwart Dylan Fitzgerald.

Both sides exchanged chances before the hosts regained the lead in the 39th minute when Nathan Nickeas rifled home.

On the stroke of half time Shay Stansfield headed against the post for Heys to give them hope for the second half.

Like the first half Charnock made a strong start to the second period with Nickeas firing wide and Luke Gibson seeing a goal bound effort blocked by Gabriel Mooney-Munoz.

Opportunities for Heys were sporadic as the home side continued to look the most likely but in one last push up popped Sousa to level and it almost got better in added time when Sonny Reeves fired just wide.

Having ended their barren run, Heys will hope this may prove a turning point for them as they welcome FC St. Helens to Adie Moran Park on Saturday (3pm).
