Fells, trails and even sand, from 5k to 26.2 miles, this week has had it all for Radcliffe AC.
Sunday saw the penultimate Central Lancs Grand Prix event with 14 runners competing in the Gin Pit 5 trail race, set around the old mining colliery in Tyldesley. First home for the club, and first male V45, was Steven Fawcett in 32mins 17secs. Second home, and first MV60, was Michael Kontowtt, in 36:25, followed by Scott Rosevere (42:38), Ethan Malone (43:39), David Bartlett (44:38), Ross Calvert (46:13), Wayne Holden (49:01), Peter Warr (49:48), Elaine Bailey (51:49), Laura Aiken (57:10), Caroline Malone (57:10), Natalie Hitchen (57:47), Sara Parry (1:12:10) and Bev Quinton (1:12:11).
Two club runners took on the Castle C’Alf fell race, the last of the Run The Moors Series and a distance of 12km with 490m of climbing. It involved deep bogs, steep climbs and a deep river crossing but was thoroughly enjoyed by Ian Swan in a time of 1:16:52 and Christopher Mihalyi, in 1:24:14
Stephen Crowe took on a race with a difference on Saturday. The Drop Manchester involves being blindfolded and taken to a location somewhere in Greater Manchester, and the job is to find a way back to the start on Deansgate without the use of any tech or maps. He completed the task in 2:56:43.
There were marathons and metric marathons in Chester, taking on the traditional marathon distance of 26.2 miles and first home for the club was Ryan Hallworth in an impressive 3:13:34, Andrew O’Donnell was next home in 3:32:05
Other results: Adam Wills 3:50:35, Joseph Bramwell 3:54:33, Jakub Bramwell 3:54:31, Mark Garner 3:59:46, Dominic Parry 4:01:03, Emma Wolstencroft 4:41:56 and Kath Biddle 4:56:46.
Taking on the metric marathon a distance of 26.2 km was Sheila Jones, first home for the club in 2:20:09, Karen Wells (2:29:24), Chemane Goulding (2:48:28), Helen Kay (3:09:37) and Tracy Wroe (3:41:10).
Alongside their parents, juniors Grace and Skyler took part in the Chester mini marathon over a distance of 2.5 km.
Kath Biddle, Emma Wolstencroft, Chemane Goulding and Tracy Wroe completed the famous Chester ‘Triple’, previously finishing a 10k and a half-marathon.
