Bryan Ly isn’t getting carried away after helping Bury make it seven successive wins in all competitions.

The attacker had a big impact off the bench as the Shakers ran out 2-0 winners against South Liverpool at Gigg Lane thanks to goals from Alex Cherera and Rustam Stepans.

There is plenty of competition for places at Bury and Dave McNabb has been utilising his squad as the games come thick and fast.

Ly believes that competition is a good thing and is determined to make the most of his opportunities from the start or off the bench.

“I thought it was a good game,” he said. “Obviously, first half we were nowhere near how we are capable of playing.

“The gaffer said, ‘You are coming on, we need you to make an impact’. I was ready, it goes to show how much of a competitive squad we have got.

“No lad in the team deserves to be on the bench but there is competition for places. I knew I had kind of a point to prove when I came on and I thought I did alright. Getting the win and three points is the main thing.

“We have so much talent in the attacking line-up, it is frightening. When you get the shirt you know you have to give everything you have got to keep it.

“Ultimately, there is someone ready to take if off you if you are not up to it. I think that is healthy – the manager, Tim (Lees) and everyone behind the scenes have driven that into us.”

Ly arrived at Gigg Lane from Wythenshawe over the summer but didn’t have the easiest of starts at Gigg Lane, spending several weeks on the sidelines due to concussion.

“It has been a bit different for me, I obviously played the first game and was out for three weeks with concussion,” he added.

“It has been about slowly getting me back in and getting more minutes. It is a tough league, it is not easy to get out of.

“With the Cups, there are games coming round all the time so you have got to be ready. The manager is good with squad rotation.

“Like I said, the players are too good to be sat on the bench every game so he likes to mix it up, which is good.”

Next up is a trip to Isle of Man, which is a unique fixture due to the travel situation. “We are looking forward to it,” said Ly.

“It is just another game, we want to take it game-by-game and hopefully get the three points, that is the main thing.”
