On the day legendary Britpop band Oasis reformed, Ramsbottom United left their own fans feeling 'supersonic' following a 4-0 win against South Liverpool to return to the top of the NWCL Premier Division, writes Aaron Benson.

An Oumar Camara brace did the damage with goals in the 47th and 50th minute, while Luke Sephton and Robert Wilson scoring the opening and closing goals.

The Rams took the lead after only five minutes through midfielder Sephton. After initially conceding a free kick deep into their own half when Maine Walder brought down South Liverpool’s Reece Dwyer, the subsequent Oscar Radcliffe-led counterattack found Tom Hoyle who complemented the initial pass with his own through ball to goal scorer Sephton. On the edge of the penalty area, the midfielder’s shot flew past South Liverpool keeper Lucas Allan.

Clear cut chances were a rarity in the first half, however. Shortly after the opening goal, Harvey Whyte took a similar route to Sephton, although Allan made amends second time around with a smart save.

From his now familiar right wing back role, Radcliffe’s attempt on goal also failed to beat the keeper, despite his low, trickling cross causing havoc for the visiting defence.

The opening 45 minutes drew to a close with the score line failing to reflect the home sides dominance.

Rammy responded superbly after the half time break and doubled their advantage in the 47th minute. Following some tidy footwork from Hoyle, the former’s quick pass found Camara who scored his first of the night. Camara’s second came soon after in a goal of pure quality. Taking the ball on the half turn, the number nine turned his opponent to finish in the far corner. The home side were enjoying a particular purple patch at this point and converted their fourth and final goal in the 55th minute. As the ball bobbled on the edge of the area, Rob Wilson was first on the scene to score the Rams’ third goal in only ten minutes.

The Rams came close to adding a well-deserved fifth goal on two occasions. First, substitute Rio McEvoy placed his effort wide of the mark, then Hoyle saw his side foot effort cleared off the line.

Boss Steve Wilkes said: “Another good performance from the lads.

“Partnerships are beginning to form nicely all over the pitch now. Once again we won’t be getting carried away as it’s very early in the season.

“We enjoy the win and prepare for a tough game at Longridge on Saturday, starting with our Thursday training session”.
