Hat trick hero Ruben Jerome says it was important to “bounce back” against Abbey Hey – and is determined to carry momentum into Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Avro.
Summer signing Jerome was ruthless in front of goal as the Shakers recorded an emphatic 7-1 victory on the road.
Dave McNabb’s side had dropped points against Irlam at Gigg Lane several days prior as they adjust to the new pitch.
“It’s a good result,” said Jerome. “Obviously, the result was the most important thing but it was a good performance as well to go with it.
“It was important we bounced back from Saturday, we had a disappointing result. But it shows we are heading in the direction and hopefully we can push on now.
“The management give us everything we need to go out and perform and we just didn’t do that (against Irlam).
“Collectively, we regrouped. We are focused, we know what we have got as a group and what we want to achieve.
“It was important to bounce back and silence the noise that always comes with the size of the club when we don’t get the results.”
The squad did not get much chance to train on the new pitch ahead of the Irlam fixture, but Jerome is confident they can adjust quickly.
“It was a bit slow given the weather, it was really warm, so it was difficult at times,” he admitted.
“But it is not going anywhere, we just have to get used to it. The more we play and train on it, we will be able to do that.”
Bury have had plenty of joy in the final third since the start of the campaign, scoring 18 goals in their opening four league matches.
McNabb’s men also beat Congleton Town in the Cup earlier this month, and Jerome is determined to deliver another strong performance this weekend.
“It is important because I know if I score and the other attackers score, it gives us an opportunity to win the game,” he added.
“A lot of players have already scored this season and will continue to do so. Competition is really high, we have some good attacking players. I was happy to get three and more importantly, get the win.
“We have just got to take our performance into Saturday. They are a team in a higher division but we have shown already in the FA Cup that we can go and compete against teams higher up.
“We just need to make sure we are on it and if we are, I am sure the result will take care of itself.”
