An under-10s team will be going to the home of English football at the end of the month to compete in a national tournament.

Ramsbottom United Tigers U10s are heading to St George’s Park in Burton-on-Trent, the base of all 23 England international football sides, to play in the 3v3 UK finals on August 31, taking on opponents across the country.

The tournament is aimed at younger players, who have just begun honing their skills, through a series of fast-paced eight-minute matches, which take place on small air pitches.

They qualified for the competition after achieving success in the semi-finals back in December.

Team coach Ryan Newell said: “I’m confident in the lads and am very proud of how far they’ve come.

“They’re really growing as a fairly new team and have all gelled so well. They’re coming on leaps and bounds and it’s like they’ve played together for life.

“They’ve been playing friendlies and are smashing it. They’ve not lost in months and if they keep it up, I know they’ll have a chance at winning everything in the future.”

Ryan set up the team, which is made up of nine players, in December last year after previously coaching several Seedfield Pumas teams and is supported by assistant coach, Michal Baran.

They will also be entering a north Bury league for the first time when it begins in September.

He added: “The final will be such a good experience for them. Not many people get to play in such a prestigious location. They’ve done so to get this far.

“I want to say a big thank you to the parents for their ongoing support and commitment.

"Some travel more than 30 miles for training and matches which can take place up to three times a week during summer.”
