A squad of junior Bury athletes travelled to Crewe to compete in the Cheshire Track and Field League and performed well.
Jakub Purzycki was the sole under-15 competitor and competed well to take third in the 200m (27.8secs) and fourth in the long jump (4.28m). For the U13s, the club had Olivia Newbitt and Annabelle Hinze taking part and Olivia had a brilliant race in the 800m, winning in 2:39.9 and smashing her personal best in the process. She also took fourth in the A 200m (29.6) and fourth in the A long jump (3.75), while Annabelle won her 200m heat with 32.5 and took third in the shot with 5.12.
It was in the U11 age group the club was better represented with the team taking second overall. Patrick Battersby won the B 150m (23.3), took second in the A 600m (1:59.4)and won the A long jump (3.38).
Benjamin Vickers took third in the A 150m (25.2), won the B 600m (2:06.8) and took second in the A javelin (14.50). Louie Wright placed second in the C 150m (26.6), second in the C 600m (2:19.0) and fourth in the C javelin (7.90).
For the girls, Violette Overlunde took second in the B 75m (11.5), second in the B 600m (2:03.2) and second in the A javelin (9.39). Mylah Collier won the B 75m (11.9), took second in the A 600m (2:01.9) and second in the A long jump (3.30), while Niamh Murray won the C 75m (11.9) and the D 600m (2:13.3) and took second in the C long jump (2.79). Myla Bryan won the D 75m (12.2) and the C 600m (2:06.2), and took second in the B long jump (2.79), while Sophie Straffon-Finch competed as a non-scoring athlete in the 75m and 600m and won the D long jump (2.67).
Evelyn McDonald took second in the B javelin (7.38), Sophia Barnes also placed second in the C javelin (6.70) and there was also a second place for Maya Akram in the D javelin (5.77). Kate Duddy and Honey-Mae Long also made debuts in non-scoring events.
The girls also took second in the 4x100m relay (1:06.8) with the second non-scoring team placing fifth (1:15.5).
A number of Bury AC members competed in the Greater Manchester Schools Championships, at Stretford, last Saturday where Oliver Cooper cleared a height of 1.50 to win the junior boys’ high jump.
Lucy Hill won the senior girls’ hammer competition with 22.61, but Peter Gardner was disappointed to take second in the senior boys’ 400m hurdles (57.92). Evie Elliott placed second in the intermediate girls’ 300m hurdles (46.57 PB) and Jemima Miles also took silver in the intermediate girls’ 80m hurdles (12.06), but Ben Clarke was disappointed with his second place in the junior boys’ javelin, with 43.44.
Harry Dada-March ran well to take third in the junior boys’ 200m (25.81) and Agatha Wragg and Carraghen Spence placed third and fourth, respectively, in their junior girls’ 300m heat (44.02 and 46.00). Agatha qualified for the final where she placed fourth, in 44.94.
Lucy Dent took fourth in the junior girls’ 1500m in a new PB of 4:58, while Isabella Robinson took fourth in the junior girls’ 75m hurdles final (13.0).
