Three Bury ABC fighters were in action in Oldham and Blackburn recently.
At Oldham Boxing Club, on September 15, Bury’s Zakir Khan, aged 20, beat home competitor Mohammed Ali after boxing well.
The referee gave Ali a standing count in the first round and stopped the contest in the second giving Khan a well-deserved victory.
The same night, Bury ABC 11-year-old, Zade Afsar, competed well in a skills bout against Mohammed Ashid.
The following day, Bury’s Amaani Afsar, fighting at 63kg, faced H Howard (MM Boxing Club) in the Youth National Championships (Greater Manchester area) at Blackburn Youth Centre.
Seventeen-year-old Afsar boxed well and took the win via a split decision.
He then went on to the semi-final for the Greater Manchester region last Friday at St Pauls Working Mens Club, in Blackburn, fighting the experienced H Rehman, from FR Boxing Club, and losing in a very close fight by a split decision.
