BURY AFC booked their place in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup thanks to an impressive 2-0 win against Clitheroe in Tuesday night's replay.
A Ben Wharton penalty just before the break and a Lewis Gilboy goal early in the second half was enough to seal victory in front of a crowd of 1,142 at the Neuven Stadium.
Andy Welsh's side - the lowest ranked club remaining in the FA Cup - will now host York City in the fourth qualifying round on the weekend of October 15/16.
It was Bury’s eighth game in the competition - which has included three replays - where they have beaten four teams from higher up the football pyramid.
On Saturday, AFC earned a replay after drawing 1-1 at NPL West side Clitheroe.
Connor Comber grabbed the all-important equaliser when his 52nd minute strike cancelled out Clitheroe’s early opener - Mac Cane scoring after just 10 minutes.
Bury AFC’s cup run has also raised welcome funds with last night's victory earning the club £5,625.
They will now get at least another £3,125 for reaching the fourth qualifying round while the winners of that tie later in the month will pick up £9,375.
Bury’s FA Cup exploits mean they are already playing catch-up in the NWCL Premier Division, playing just nine times so far this season.
On Saturday, Bury, in ninth, play host to fourth-placed Avro.
