BURY AFC’s chairman has announced he is stepping down from his role with the phoenix club.
Chris Murray has been at the helm of the club’s management team since the outfit was set-up in response to the Shakers’ expulsion from the EFL in August 2019.
He was selected for the role by AFC’s community board and played an instrumental role in operations as the new club embarked on life in the North West Counties League First Division North.
Andy Welsh’s side sit top of the table but have played just seven games due to the Covid-19 pandemic with the season currently paused.
“After much deliberation over the last few weeks, I’ve decided to step down from my position as chairman of Bury AFC for personal reasons,” Murray said in a statement.
“I’d like to thank Andy, the backroom staff and the players for their approach and attitude during what has been a difficult time with the pandemic.
“To all the volunteers that I’ve worked with thank you for your support since I took on this role.
"I leave proud of what we’ve all created so far and wish the club every success moving forward.”
