BURY boxing prospect Ben Ridings has been handed a chance to shine on the big stage next month.
The 22-year-old, who has won all three of his fights to date, will be part of a four-man, one-night, super-middleweight tournament live on both ITV4 and BT Sport on Tuesday, November 10.
‘UB7’, from promoters Boxxer, will see Ridings, Southern Area champion and favourite Zak Chelli and Manchester duo Diego Costa and Charlie Schofield in action behind closed doors at the BT Sport studio in Stratford.
The two semi-finals and final will take place on the night with the victor claiming the Golden Robe and the lion’s share of the prize money.
Ridings, trained and managed by former fighter Kieran Farrell in Heywood, goes into the tournament as something of an unknown quantity compared to the others and will be looking to upset the odds as the youngest man in the competition.
“I’ve been given this opportunity and I’m going to take it,” he said.
“I’m the underdog but I’m going to win this tournament.”
Ridings, who turned professional in 2018, was initially scheduled to be part of an eight-man version of the tournament in April that was postponed due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
On November 10 there will also be a supporting undercard which includes a professional boxing debut for reality TV star Jack Fincham, a former winner of ITV hit show Love Island.
