DANNY Mayor says he and his Bury team-mates feel “in limbo” due to the ongoing uncertainty over the club’s future.
The winger is one of several players out of contract at Gigg Lane this summer and would like to extend his stay with the Shakers.
However, he has had to start considering a move elsewhere due to a continued lack of communication from the club’s hierarchy.
The players issued a joint statement last week to express their frustration at an apparent lack of progress with a potential sale of the club.
Chairman Steve Dale responded with a statement of his own but, since that, the Bury players have had no direct contact regarding the financial situation and the chances of them staying at the club next season.
“I’m the same as the other lads, I don’t really know what’s going on,” said Mayor.
“We’ve not been told anything about whether the club’s going to be sold or not.
“We’re kind of in limbo, really.
“We saw the statement but we’ve heard a lot of things before and it’s not come to fruition so we have to take it with a pinch of salt.”
Mayor, aged 28, has been with Bury since 2013 and has just helped the Shakers earn promotion from League Two for the second time during his stint at Gigg Lane.
There had speculation over whether the former Preston and Sheffield Wednesday man would sign a new deal but the decision may be taken out of his hands.
Mayor has a young family – his son will be 12 weeks old on Sunday – and the players fear they will not be paid on time for the third straight month on Friday.
“It’s tough for everyone,” Mayor added.
“I’d love to say everything’s going to work out and I’ll stay at Bury but I can’t sign anything when it’s not been offered.
“I can’t keep waiting around to see what they say, hoping the club gets bought. A lot of lads are in the same situation.
“They’re out of contract and they’ve got families, and they’ve got to do what’s best for them.”
Youth product Scott Burgess is the club’s first confirmed departure this summer.
The 21-year-old midfielder has signed a one-year deal with Port Vale, whose
manager John Askey had Burgess on loan at Macclesfield in 2017/18.
