JERMAINE Beckford says Saturday’s opponents MK Dons should be worried by Bury’s resurgence.
The Shakers are unbeaten in their last three League One games following draws against Plymouth and Charlton with a 3-0 win at home to Oxford United on Tuesday night.
MK Dons are also unbeaten in three, but stand-in skipper Beckford is confident his side can come out on top.
“They should be worrying about us more than us worrying about them,” he said.
“I’m not taking anything away from them saying they’re not any good, I think they are pretty good, but I also back my team-mates.
“We have got a real togetherness and the last couple of results, you can see the team bonding. You can see we’re prepared to fight for one another and it’s paying off.
“We are still a work in progress but we are very close to where we need to be. We are going to push on at the weekend and continue to take it game by game.”
Beckford has made a wonderful start to his Shakers career, netting six goals in 10 appearances, including four in his last four games.
He has hit some pretty spectacular efforts along the way but, after missing two penalties, agreed to step aside to let Chris Maguire stroke home Bury’s opener from the spot on Tuesday night.
“I was giving somebody else a chance,” Beckford joked. “I get enough from open play.
“I just take it game by game. I’m enjoying myself and I’m just trying to get a goal a game. Do you know what, I’ve imagined myself scoring more.”
The 33-year-old is also enjoying taking on the captaincy in the absence of injured skipper Stephen Dawson.
“I love it,” he said. “It’s a whole new role for me and it’s a whole new responsibility. Something that’s new to me but I try to take it in my stride.
“The lads and the gaffer have confidence in me so it fits me pretty well at the moment.”
