SHAKERS supporters could give their club the ultimate Christmas present by joining a scheme to help them buy a new player.

The 200 Club has been set up to raise funds to sign someone usually considered outside the Shakers' budget.

Like the 100 club before it - which helped dig the club out of financial trouble in 2005 - supporters and businesses are being asked to pay a weekly fee.

But this time, fans' £5 donation, could be put towards a much more positive cause.

Chris Casper admitted the extra funds could prove vital as his side look to emulate their pre-January form of last season.

"The aim has to be to be in that position again," Casper said.

"Round about Christmas we were two points off the play-offs and ninth. That, at least, would suit me again.

"But we had to sell an important player at that stage last year. There was no money available to bring anyone else in, and Brian Barry-Murphy got injured, so it was a double blow. Thankfully, we got through it.

"To be able to add someone this time would be massive for us."

Members of Club 200 will also be entered into a draw to win one of two brand-new cars, subject to full subscription.

l Shakers fans have the chance to ask Chris Casper and Keith Alexander about Club 200 at the Forever Bury fans' forum, to be held at the Social Club tonight, from 7.30pm.

One or two of the Shakers' new signings should also be present.
