PAUL Scott is hoping the winning attitude of some of the Shakers' new signings will rub off on the rest of the squad.

Bury's third longest-serving player, behind Dave Challinor and Colin Woodthorpe, the utility man is due some success after three tough years at Gigg Lane.

And Scott says the arrival of Ben Futcher and Paul Morgan, two players who have been no strangers to the upper reaches of the table in recent years, should spur the squad on to greater things this time around.

"We want a bit of success," said the 27-year-old Yorkshireman. "It hasn't been good over the last two years battling against relegation. Obviously at the end of it, you're elated, but it would be nice to be up there at the other end of the table.

"The club have brought players this summer who know how to be successful. Hopefully that will rub off on us."

Like the rest of the squad, Scott arrived back in pre-season training this week, and was thrust quickly into action, starting in midfield against Altrincham. And the fact the Shakers squad were able to move so effortlessly into a game situation showed how things have changed for the modern footballer, said Scott.

He added: "You used to go back and be blowing a bit, but now you go straight into training. You have to keep on top of things over the summer.

"We have only been back a few days and have gone straight on to small-sided games. In the olden days, you'd be running for two weeks solid.

"I have never played a game so quickly after the start of pre-season, but I'd prefer that, it helps you get back into the swing of things."
