BURY boxer Scott Quigg won his first fight under new trainer Freddie Roach at Wembley Stadium tonight with a unanimous points decision against Viorel Simion.
It was the 28-year-old's second at featherweight level and proved every bit as tough as he expected pre-fight but the judges awarded him the victory 117-111, 117-111, 115-113.
Against a battling Romanian who only had one defeat prior to the clash, Quigg started cagily but was soon on the front foot and a lot more attacking than in previous fights.
But that also left him open to shots and his opponent certainly played his part.
But for Quigg it was a deserved win and it puts him a step closer to a world title shot against IBF champion Lee Selby.
