THE 2014 season in the Bolton Tennis League ended with the closest possible result for Walmer Mens C team.
They were away to Roe Green in Division Six with the teams having identical records at the start.
Walmer opened a 2-1 lead after the first sets but they fell behind at 3.5/4.5.
The result depended on Stew Hardy and Joe Donaldson who responded with a 6-2 win to share the match at 4.5/4.5.
Walmer, though, won the title on a superior sets difference of just one set.
Stu Donaldson and Julian Nuttall scored 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, Stew Hardy and Joe Donaldson 6-6, 6-3, 6-2, while Brian Richards and Dominic Siddall lost by 4, 0 and 1. The squad have had a good season under captain Stu Donaldson with Julian Nuttall and Luke Blackburn providing an unbeaten partnership together with the reliability of Win Lees playing with a number of partners.
The already-relegated Mens A team lost 2-7 at home to Lostock A.
Jay Hardy and Adam Goody have been their standout performers.
The Men’s B team ended second from bottom of Division Two after their 3-6 defeat at Lostock B.
Congratulations are due to Walmer’s Lulu Morley and Elle Ward who won the handicapped Ladies Doubles title and to Gail and Luke Blackburn who won the handicapped mixed doubles event at the recent Bolton Tournament.
