BRIAN Jensen challenged Bury manager David Flitcroft to find a better goalkeeper than him after scooping two top awards at the club's end of season ceremony.
The 38-year-old former Burnley stopper walked away with the Bury Times prize and the club's main gong, voted for by the fans.
He thanked Flitcroft and the Bury management team, but could not resist a tongue in cheek jibe as the recognition came just 24 hours after being released by the club.
"Obviously I wanted to stay for another season, but the challenge is there for the gaffer now to go out and find another goalkeeper that's better than me, although I understand Manuel Neuer is not available," he joked with the audience at Bury's Village Hotel.
"But seriously, I am really happy to have been able to play for this great club and I am genuinely delighted with the awards.
"I wish I could stay, but that's the way football is. Thanks very much to the fans for voting. It means a lot."
The man the supporters affectionately refer to as "the Beast" was signed by previous manager Kevin Blackwell on transfer deadline day in August.
He had to bide his time to replace early starters Trevor Carson and Rob Lainton, but went on to become a permanent fixture, keeping 15 clean sheets in 38 appearances.
