TEMITOPE Obadeyi’s return to Plymouth Argyle on loan may not be the last departure from Bury as manager David Flitcroft continues to juggle his squad.
The former Bolton Wanderers forward was at the Devon club when Flitcroft was appointed in December.
But the Shakers boss scuppered Argyle’s plans to turn his two-month stay into a season-long loan, preferring to run the rule over the pacy attacker.
It seems now that the process of assessment and evaluation is over, and after allowing Obadeyi to leave, Flitcroft admits he is open to offers for other fringe players.
“If I get the opportunity to loan a player out and feel that it is right for the football club, to get the balance right in the squad, then I will do it,” he said.
“We keep progressing this squad day in, day out. It is a continuing process.”
The arrival of left-back Jake Carroll this week increased Bury’s first-team squad to 27, considerably more than the 20 players Flitcroft has previously said he was aiming for.
But goalkeepers Trevor Carson and Rob Lainton, along with Obadeyi , have been loaned out, while young defenders James Burke and Robbie McIntyre and former youth strikers Anthony Dudley and Regan Walker are considered to be ones for the future, rather than the present.
They could be prime candidates for late season loans, while out-of-favour centre-back Nathan Cameron could also benefit from some game time.
That could be the plan with Obadeyi, who will complete his maximum 93-day stay at Plymouth on March 25 and may yet play an important part in Bury’s end of season run-in.
The 24-year-old is currently behind five first-team strikers in the pecking order – Anton Forrester, Daniel Nardiello, Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, Clive Platt and Ashley Grimes.
But Grimes will miss today’s trip to AFC Wimbledon with a hamstring strain and is expected to be out for at least three weeks.
Further injuries could yet re-open the door for Obadeyi and Flitcroft will be hoping he will return to the JD Stadium with plenty of games and goals under his belt.
