Bury Gymnastics Girls Competition Squad are celebrating a double success after winning the North West Teams and FIG Championships.
The team of Lauryn Campbell, Molly Lunn and Katie-Ann Barton, finished first and third in level three of the North West Teams, and took all three top positions in the FIG Championships.
Chris McLaughlin, competition squad coach, said: “The hard work in the gym most certainly paid off! There are some very happy coaches. I’m feeling really proud.”
It has been a busy and rewarding eight weeks for the girls with Daisy Gamble becoming the first gymnast to pass the Level 2 British Gymnastics Elite Certificate at the new club. The hard work of Daisy, Katie-Ann, Lauryn, Molly, Elise and Laci paid off as Team A brought home the silver medal with a second place position in The Bill Slater 2013 tournament. Elle, Harriet, Kay-Lea, Grace, Casey and Mel in Team B finished in 14th position with a clean sheet on beam.
Alison Humphries, head of girls coaching, said: “Wow! What a weekend! Daisy passing level two, two teams in the Bill Slater and some excellent performances. Well done girls. There was some great support from the team Bury cheerleader parents too.”
The squad, who train at their purpose built facility at Goshen, Bury, also collected seven gold medals, 11 silver and four bronze awards across various age groups at this year’s Greater Manchester four-piece Apparatus Championships.
