Bury travelled to Warrington with seven players looking to get a win over the current league leaders. With the score tied at 10, Phil Stainton hit four consecutive threes to blow the game wide open.
The second quarter saw Stu Jackson and Egoli Togo work inside for baskets, while the defence of Bart Szarejko limited Warrington’s offense. Dave Avery played excellent individual defence with two blocks helping Bury to a 43 to 38 half time lead.
Warrington were back in the game with some great outside shooting so a defensive switch by player/coach Mike Nichols put defensive aggressor Jay Knowles on the Warrington threat. Tough interior and exterior defense combined with fluid movement on offense helped Bury to a 17 to one run to end the third and the first part of the fourth quarter.
Warrington attempted a full court press, yet Bury easily found holes for baskets and with Knowles limiting the threat Bury ran out winners 94 to 62. A comprehensive win over potential league champions. The win should lift Bury to second in the league depending on other results with a win loss record of three and one.
