A HAT-TRICK by Luke Fidler helped Bury to stage a stunning comeback in a 5-4 win against a skilful Lancaster side.

Bury found themselves a goal down in the fourth minute as Lancaster scored in goalmouth scramble.

Bury hit back and grabbed an equaliser as good link up play between Simon Major and James Oakes handed Fidler a chance to open his accout.

Lancaster then continued to put pressure on the Bury defence and added a further two goals to move 3-1 in front. Bury refused to buckle, and created a number of chances through Fidler, David Hodbod and James Oakes, but they were unable to reduce the deficit before half time.

The visitors stormed out of the blocks in the second half and, just 12 minutes into the half, found themselves 4-3 in front. Fidler started the comeback just two minutes into the half, producing a fine lob over the home keeper to give Bury hope. The momentum swung in Bury’s favour with Major and James Oakes finishing close range chances to put them on top.

The game was not over, as Lancaster levelled the scores from a short corner, before Fidler took centre stage. Another inch perfect lob from the striker, not only sealed his hat-trick but also ensured that Bury came home with the points from an enthralling game.

The second team rescued a point having thrown away a 3-1 lead against visitors Carlisle. Goals from Dave Fox, Andy Robertson and Tony Sanderson had given the home side the advantage before Carlisle responded and looked to have won the game as they moved 4-3 in front. With just three minutes left Callum Lyall converted a short corner, to ensure that Bury gained at least a point.

The third team maintained their lead at the top of Division Six North, with a comfortable win over West Derby. Strikes by Joe Ainscow, Mark Waywell and Jonathan Lowe ensured that the third team’s 100 per cent record was maintained.

There was heart break for the ladies first team as they crashed out of the Division Two Cup to league leaders City of Manchester. The ladies were 3-1 up, before surrendering the advantage, with the game finishing 3-3 and going to the dreaded penalty strokes. Unfortunately, the Manchester side held their nerve, to knock the ladies first team out at the first hurdle.

An end to end encounter saw newly promoted Bury narrowly miss out to Nomads on Saturday. Melissa Axten, Becky Loonan and Sophie Forman combined well, but couldn’t produce a goal, while keeper Soraya Hassan limited Nomads to just two goals.

Traffic problems meant the third team started without a keeper, as Roydon looked to take advantage of the situation, taking the lead after 10 minutes. However, a fine performance from Judith Murphy, in the Bury defence, kept Roydon at bay. Bury’s keeper finally arriving the game totally changed, with Bury now dominating. However, the third team were unable to find an equaliser, as the Roydon keeper produced an inspired second half display.
