DANNY Hylton may not have provided an instant solution to Bury’s goalscoring problems, but the on-loan striker is vowing to fight tooth and nail for the cause during his month at Gigg Lane.

Described by caretaker boss Ronnie Jepson as the sort to “chase down a leaf in the wind”, the 24-year-old Rotherham United man, pictured, says his footballing philosophy is based on hard graft.

“I go into every game just trying to work my socks off,” he said. “If you work your socks off everything else comes on top of that. It’s the basis of a good performance.

“An experienced pro told me when I was a youngster at Aldershot if you work hard you are always going to be marked six or seven out of 10 in a game.”

That work ethic has instantly endeared him to the Gigg Lane faithful.

The young forward, who scored 36 goals in 178 appearances for Aldershot before moving to the New York Stadium in the summer, ran himself into the ground against Mansfield on Tuesday.

And while he headed a decent opportunity over the bar late in the game, his effort, combined with promising link-up play with strike partner Shaun Harrad, has already justified the decision to bring him to Gigg Lane.

Hylton signed on the same day Jepson was given the caretaker role, and now he is looking to make the most of his time with Bury – either as a stepping stone into the Rotherham first team or with a view to something more permanent.

“I’ve not had a run of games for a while now so I’m looking to get stronger with each game and hopefully the goals will come,” said Hylton, who has only played once for Rotherham.

“I will do my month here and give my all. I would love to go back to Rotherham and play, but it’s not really up to me.

“If I can do that then brilliant but, if not, then if I can stay here that would be brilliant as well. I just want to play games.”
