THE Bury first team moved into second place in Division Four North after putting seven goals past Bolton’s third team without reply.

James Oakes gave Bury the perfect start inside the first minute as the home side took the lead with their first attack of the game.

Further goals from James Larmett, Rob Bradburn and Ben Cooper before the game was 25 minutes old ensured Bury had the points sewn up before half time.

The second half started in similar fashion with Luke Fidler grabbing an early goal with a diving finish, before scoring his second and Bury’s sixth with a trademark reverse-stick shot.

The scoring was wrapped up by Oakes, who thundered in his second of the game and 10th of the season, as the first team claimed successive victories and clean sheets.

The second team took a step in the right direction as they drew 2-2 away against Preston 5s on Saturday.

Captain Tony Sanderson’s brace ensured Bury left with a point, although it could have been more as Preston grabbed a late equaliser.

A vintage display from Matt Cooke capped a superb performance from Bury’s third team, as they brushed aside Golborne’s third team 10-2.

Cooke claimed four of the goals, including two deft deflections, as well as having a hand in several other goals.

Joe Ainscow also claimed a hat-trick, with Daniel Scarfe grabbing a brace and Adam Johnson rounding off the scoring in what was a comprehensive victory that pushed the third team to the top of Division Six North.

A dominant performance saw the ladies first team claim another three points on Sunday, as they brushed aside Urmston 2s 4-0.

Two strikes from Jo Millar and one each from Lisa Davies and Becky Loonan, maintained the side’s undefeated start to the season.

They moved into second place of Division Two in the Greater Manchester Womens’ Hockey Association.
