WALMER Men A signed off for the mid-season tournament break with a fine performance against Chorley A which put them in the top half of Bolton Tennis League’s Division One.
Jay Hardy and Adam Gooddy won their sets 6-1, 6-1, 6-4 followed by another three wins from Andy Davies and Josh Taylor, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. Rick Morley and Tom Lemon added another two sets to see Walmer win by 8-1 and open up a clear gap over teams below them.
Walmer Men B meanwhile suffered a 5-4 defeat at Lostock B, but the visitors are still in contention at the top of Division Three with four games left in the season. Walmer Men C were visitors to Lostock E and with their three pairs each doing their job, they ran out 6-3 victors. Wyn Lees and Andy Parton won three sets and Stew Hardy and Raj Rahman won two. Julian Nuttall and Luke Blackburn won one set to add to Walmer’s winning total.
In Division Two of the Mixed League, Walmer enjoyed a comfortable win at Hawkshaw B, opening with wins in the mixed section by Jay Hardy and Hattie Morley, 6-3, Adam Gooddy and Lisa Morley, 6-2, Paul Biggins and Gail Blackburn, 6-2, and Mike Davies and Dianne Hardman, 6-3.
Walmer then won all sets in the men’s section and, for the ladies, Dianne and Hattie won their sets.
Lisa and Gail were ahead in their first set before an injury caused them to concede, but Walmer still won by a wide margin.
