WALMER mixed A team entertained Bolton Division Two leaders David Lloyd (Chorley) at Mosley Avenue and the visitors soon justified their top place.
Walmer lost ground in the opening mixed section with only Jay Hardy and Hattie Morley winning a set, 6-2. Mike Davies and Mandy Winskill lost 6-4, and Adam Gooddy and Lisa Morley and Rhys Taylor and Gail Blackburn each lost 6-2.
The home side recovered well in the ladies’ section as Lisa and Gail won 6-2, 6-2 and Hattie and Mandy scored 6-1, 2-6.
The result was always in doubt as Hardy and Gooddy returned sets of 6-2, 3-6 but Davies and Taylor lost 6-1, 6-3 for Walmer to lose by a narrow 51-47.
In Division Three, Walmer B found hosts Lostock C in great form. The Walmer mixed pairs all lost their sets to fall eight games behind. Phil Mansfield and Steve Routledge did really well to win by 6-3, 6-4, but Rick Morley and Raj Rahman lost their sets. In the ladies’ section, Kate Mansfield and Sophie Parton, and Pam Leach and Dianne Hardman were unable to take a set so that Walmer lost 65-43..
In Division Five, the mixed C team played at Eagley C, and opened well in the mixed section with wins for Keith Fairhurst and Lulu Morley, Bruce Hardman and Megan Suthurst and Stu Donaldson and Fran Biggins. The ladies got a clean sweep of four sets and in the men’s section Donaldson and Hardman and Biggins and Fairhurst shared their sets, but with a games advantage, so that Walmer won 66-45.
