BURY captain Steven Schumacher has assured fans that, despite the club’s financial problems and his own fine form, he is not looking for a big money move away from Gigg Lane.
The 28-year-old former Everton midfielder has been doing his utmost to keep the Shakers in with a shout in League One, leading the goalscoring charts with six so far this season.
But they remain third-bottom and without a win in 10 matches, a fact Schumacher is dwelling on much more than the plaudits his own performances have been receiving.
“I’ve had a few people saying a few nice things about me of late because my performances have been all right and the goals have been helping out,” he said.
“So people are saying that clubs are looking at me or people are interested in me. That’s nice, but, if I’m honest, I don’t really take that much notice.
“I just want to try and win everything for us more than anything else and whatever will be will be, as they say.
“It’s good to be linked and good to be spoken about, but in football I know how quickly things can change, so I’ll just keep doing my job.”
The outspoken captain admits recent results have been difficult to take, and he will be pulling out all the stops to turn the club’s fortunes around.
“Being one of the senior players and the captain, it does hit hard,” said Schumacher, who is in his third season at Gigg Lane after enjoying promotion and League One safety in his two previous campaigns.
“I do care for this club. I’ve had two and a half good years here and I don’t want the third year to end on a bad note. So we need to start picking up some points.”
