BURY have confirmed that centre-back Adam Lockwood has been ruled out for the season.
The 31-year-old former Doncaster defender, who moved to Gigg Lane in the summer, has not played for the Shakers since scoring in the 2-0 win at home to Portsmouth on November 10.
He limped off late in that game after picking up a groin injury. It was hoped that the damage could be repaired through rest, but specialists have now said he will need an operation.
Lockwood had been an ever-present in the starting line-up, making 17 starts in League One this season.
His long-term absence from the squad is a major blow for manager Kevin Blackwell, who is unable to register any new players following the Football League's decision to impose a transfer embargo on the club.
