SECOND-placed Blue Devils took a while to get into their stride when they travelled to their Manchester Area Basketball League Division One rivals.

Egerton equickly capialised to take a 19-8 lead, but Bury recovered to trail 19-15 after the first quarter.

The momentum stayed with Bury, who hit the target from long range and close in while also defending their basket well, allowing only seven points from Egerton. At half-time Bury held a commanding 31-26 point lead.

The local men’s confidence took a blow as Egerton stepped up their game by notching a couple of threes as Bury struggled. However, the Blue Devils showed their grit and hit seven straight points to take a six-point lead with two minutes remaining in the third quarter before sloppy defence allowed Egerton to level at 41-41.

Bury’s superior discipline then told as they took an 11-point lead with two minutes remaining.

Composure in attack and tough defence brought home the win which keeps them in the running for league honours.
