‘Little Minds Forest School Nursery’ is an educational establishment in Stacksteads, Bacup. It embraces a revolutionary educational frontier that has spread throughout England with great haste within the recent decade. The New Frontier embraces the Scandinavian Ethos that teach through play and balance as well as the implementation of natural resources (similarly to Montessori nurseries). The nursery is run by Lee,Emma and kayla all backed by varying degrees of knowledge of education of the younger mindsets; one that is like no other.
The site consists of no fixed structured but a plethora of sheltered areas to keep
the children and staff warm and dry when it’s raining cats and dogs. On the subject of animals, the site is full of creepy crawlies that the team are dedicated to teaching your children how to care for within the environment and be at one with it. But how are they actually taught I hear you ask? Well they are taught by a unique tailored educational style of child-led learning which has brought them great success and when asked they said “We are really pleased with our recent ofsted grade of outstanding in all areas. We feel it reflects the dedication of the team, our families and our community.” Child-led learning is a prize jewel of Miss Whalley’s learning arsenal which she has perfected throughout her countless years of teaching and was adopted from the conception of the nursery. What are the pros and cons you say while twiddling your thumbs?
Well, Child-led is a simple yet effective way to engage the children in regular mundane learning exercises by using subjects that intrigue them such as dinosaurs. An example of child-led learning is counting dinosaurs as you are teaching them how to count using our vast, complex numerical system(one which many adults still don’t understand) whilst holding their engagement using the dinosaurs:objects that they fascinate themselves with.To summarise, child-lee learning is one of cooperation between the teacher and student to maximise attention instead of using discipline and consequence as the motivator;the student is the motivator as they are actively engaging due to their passions and interests.
