Cheetham Hill Construction (CHC) Ltd has become one of Britain's first Green Heroes.
The company, based at Woodhill Road, Bury, has received the Green Organisation's Green Heroes shield. It was presented by leading botanist Professor David Bellamy OBE, at an awards ceremony at the Kensington Roof Gardens in London.
This new annual award is given to companies and local authorities who have demonstrated their commitment to the environment and by doing so, have helped others to follow their environmental lead.
The judges acknowledged how CHC had changed its working ethos to target contracts that make a positive contribution to the environment.
Previously, the company was best known for its work in earth moving and construction of landfill sites but now work also includes waterways pollution remediation, cleaning up contaminated sites and creating wildlife habitats.
