THE Routeways to Work programme is pointing the way forward for one local beautician.

For the scheme, designed to assist people from the ethnic minorities into employment, has helped Asma Akhtar. She is now the proud owner of Ashi's Beauty Lounge based in Vernon Street, Bury.

She started as a mobile hair and beauty therapist. Having completed a beauty course at Bury College she was unsure how to go about setting up her own business.

Asma said: "I visited Business Solutions where I met with the multicultural business support team which helped me immensely in my vision for getting started. My business has taken off."

The Routeways to Work in Bury programme is co-ordinated by a local partnership led by Bury Council. Central to the programme is a dedicated Routeways to Work Centre based at the Asian Development Association of Bury's premises in Heywood Street, Bury.
