YOU can imagine my surprise on the morning of Thursday, October 19 to find that I went to bed an Independent and woke up a Tory, thanks to John Byrne's letter in the Bury Times.
Why do you want me to congratulate your workforce? Surely the wages paid are praise enough. Private industry works for the good of mankind and wages, not pats on the back, banner waving and chest expanding gestures which this council seems to think is the norm.
I also note from your letter that there is no mention of my assertion that you put less into youth services than other authorities. And why is there no mention of the huge rise in council tax between 1997 and 2006? I stand by my statement that you put parks and markets first.
