SO, Jimmy Hill wants answers (Letters, October 19)! Our concern is that he has demonstrated once again by the questions he asks that he does not understand the process or the issues at hand.

There is not a shortfall in the funds available for Pimhole. In fact, more funds have been made available. The executive approved the revised budget of an extra £392,000.

The revision was caused by a change in legislation regarding compensation and the costs of the public inquiry, together with empty property support.

The term ring-fenced is completely out of context in this situation. The overall budget of £16 million for Pimhole is still a priority for the council. Again it is clear that Jimmy does not understand the fundamentals of a renewal area.

Perhaps some education is required here as well? He has not understood the mechanics of changing an area in decline to a sustainable community. The primary issue is one of confidence in an area. Gateways such as Rochdale Road and Heywood Street are major indicators of confidence. Investment in an area is not just about resources from the council, it is about social investment in the community.

The Pimhole Residents Steering Group has been formed to deliver this transformation.

This will be a different ball game - contributing to improving the area. Our advice is to get on the vision train for Pimhole. You need to hurry - it is leaving the station as we speak!
